My approach is to work with you to make it safe for you to speak about your experiences so that you can come up with the best solution for you.I will ask you the kinds of questions that help you to identify your own good advice and put this into action.
I will not think ill of you, or try to talk you into things, or take sides.
I will check how we are doing as we go along so that I can make sure we are realizing your hopes and that you are feeling safe, respected, understood and appreciated. I will encourage you to let me know if you think we are off track, or if there is anything you are uncomfortable with or that you don’t wish to speak about.
I may talk about strategies other people have found helpful and I may provide you with some guidelines about problem solving. If you find this helpful then you can experiment with these guidelines so as to find out what works best for you. I will support you with any areas of difficulty.
